MonsterMONSTER ultimate is preparing for a competitive season with the goal of earning a bid at the 2009 Canadian Ultimate Championships to attend the 2010 World Ultimate Club Championships in Prague. We would like to invite ultimate players who are looking for a competitive and fun experience to tryout for our team. We understand that our tryout follows the Ultimate Experience co-ed tryouts from 11:00am-3:00pm. This is meant to make it easier for anyone interested in attending all co-ed tryouts. Should the tryout time and location change for the Ultimate Experience, we will move time and location accordingly. We want to assure those interested in trying out for all teams that fatigue will be taken into consideration. For those only interested in trying out with MONSTER, we suggest arriving earlier (around 2:15pm) to warm up. Following this first tryout, we will invite select players to a second tryout on Wednesday April 29, 6:00-8:00pm We are planning a reduced tournament schedule this summer with an emphasis on competitive tournaments.
* single gendered We are also planning to hold one team practice/week, one local fitness practice/week as well as a Saturday practice on June 27 and another Saturday practice in July or August. Please direct any questions you have to one of our captains: See you on the field! Tundra, Zen, and Mars Meet Venus are working to duplicate the success of the Open (Men's) system by bringing continuity to mixed division leadership and providing a strong learning environment for developing players. Each team will carry a roster between 21-25 players, while practising on Thursdays (plays and strategies). Tundra will hold additional mandatory practices on Tuesdays (fitness & skills). This year, Tundra, Zen and MMV will each be attending some of the following tournaments:
Final rosters for Tundra, Zen and MMV will be selected following participation at TUF (May 9-10). You can find more about the teams, now and through the season, at: http://www.playwithspirit.com/teams.shtml Tundra
Our goal for 2009 is to qualify for WUCC 2010 in Prague, Czech Rep. To do so, we are focussing our efforts on a top-6 finish at Nationals in Winnipeg this year. We will build on 2008, increasing focus on strategy, fitness and coaching within the system. Tundra carries a roster of approximately 23-25 players, while practising on twice per week (likely Tuesday/Thursday). History (2008)2008 brought together many great players looking to share the same goals: to build a system for mixed ultimate, to have fun and to field a competitive team on the field. Bringing in this wealth of various experiences, skill levels and backgrounds gave us a strong foundation to build strategies, give players new opportunities and position Tundra as a legitimate option for high level touring in Toronto. As a first year team we are excited with how the team gelled, the improvements of players in the system, the touring opportunities given to new players and the increased role of developing strong female players. The team finished off a strong debut season by making an appearance at Nationals in Calgary, Alberta. Along the way, we had a number of successful results which we hope to build on heading into 2009. If you have any questions, please contact the captains: Zen Asylum
Zen is the perfect blend of intense training, play and fun. The Zen player works hard on the field, turns heads by playing harder than expected, and then goes out and becomes the life of the party. 2008 saw Zen becoming Batman at Gender Blender, fighting hard in Ontario Regionals, and forming personal bonds strong enough to inspire a resounding three season-ender parties. "I Heart Zen" is a sentiment so common it became a tagline. If you're selected for Zen this year, you'll find out why. In 2009, under leadership from Chris Loat, Shawn Lee, and Laura Levin, Zen sharpens its focus on competing at CUC, developing more great players into top-level players, and forming the same close bonds and friendships that we did last year... all while winning the party. If you have any questions, please contact the captains: Mars Meet Venus
More importantly than anything else, MMV is a spirited team. It's goal is to not only play hard but also win the spirit award every tournament. MMV finished the 2008 season with back to back spirit awards, including Oktoberfest where MMV also finished the tournament with a perfect 7-0 record. Norman Lew will be returning as the coach of MMV for 2009. Several MMVers are expected back and the team expects to make a big splash in all of the parties in 2009.
