Sunday Coed League

Our traditional Sunday Outdoor Fall League will run on Sunday afternoons, from September 14 to November 2 (7 wks total). No games are scheduled for the Thanksgiving weekend (Oct. 12th) but teams are free to use this day for make-up games or pickup on grass fields. Finals will take place November 2. All games are 80 minutes long and take place in central locations. Games may be on both grass and turf, in multiple locations. The majority of games will be between 12pm and 4:30pm, however there may be some games between 4-8pm at Cherry Beach or Monarch Park Stadium. We will aim to group teams on our ratings ladder (competitive, intermediate, recreational) to balance the level of play as best we can. You can sign up as an individual (to be placed on a team) or you can sign up a team. Individual signups will be placed in the lower group.

It is the responsibility of all captains to ensure that all games begin and end on time. When you reach the end time, complete the current point and then please end the game. Games CAN end in a tie. Games are to be played to time - 80 minutes, or to 15 points.

Sign-Up

You may register a full team or as an individual for Fall Outdoor League. Individuals who wish to sign up will be used to form a Hat Team based on skill level. Fall 2014 Outdoor registration opens July 30 and closes in early-September (or when specific leagues reach capacity). All registered teams/individuals will be posted a few days before league play starts. If you are not on that list, please contact the Chris Loat, Manager Member Services at 416-461-0882 or chris@tuc.org immediately.

In an effort to ensure competitive games, teams should indicate their level of ability based on summer results, overall experience, and skill level of their players.  If you are not sure, contact the League Convenor to discuss.  Players who sign up as individuals should also indicate which level they'd like to play.

All players must be valid TUC members. If you possess a 2013/2014 membership that was valid for September 2013 - August 2014 then you must acquire a new membership in order to play in ANY Fall Leagues (league fees still apply). If you are joining the Club in the Fall we offer an Introductory membership for brand new TUC members, which runs through to August 31, 2015. Exceptions can be made for for a newly recruited player. Any such non-TUC player may participate in a maximum of two games in the Fall league, after which they must become a TUC member in order to continue playing. All players must sign the waiver of liability form before stepping on the field, member or not. In order to enforce these stipulations, we rely heavily on the honour system and on our team captains. Please abide by the Spirit of the Game when dealing with this (and any other game) issue.

To sign up visit our "How to Register" page or go straight ahead to the Registration section.

TUC games follow UPA 11th Edition Rules, with a few exceptions. For Sunday Outdoor League, time permitting (time caps are in place), all TUC games are to 15 points. You must win by 2 or first to 17 if necessary. Other leagues are timed and therefore play to time, not a point total. Each team is allowed 2 timeouts per game in TUC Fall League and there is no overtime or universe point timeouts (as opposed to UPA rules which allow a timeout for overtime).

All TUC fall outdoor leagues are 4-3 mixed gender. Teams are encouraged to play both lineups - 4 men & 3 women or 3 men & 4 women - with the pulling team matching the receiving team's ratio. All players must be registered and paid TUC members.

Spirit, Safety & Fields

Spirit of the Game is an integral part of Ultimate. In order to encourage teams to play with Spirit, we are requiring all teams to submit a Spirit score as well as a game score after each game. It is the responsibility of both team captains to submit a spirit score for the other team after every game.

In the interest of safety, the TUC strongly discourages games from taking place during poor weather or on soggy fields. If the weather becomes severe during your game (i.e. thunderstorms), the game shall be ended at that point and the score becomes final. Metal cleats are not allowed under any circumstances. Foot blocks are not allowed except with the explicit prior agreement of both team captains. Any footblock, attempted or successful, should be treated as a foul.

Since field space is difficult to find, the TUC is always concerned about the possibility of losing currently permitted fields. Permits can be revoked if teams engage in prohibited activities or as the result of complaints from neighbourhood groups. Therefore, we remind everyone of the following policies:

  • The consumption of alcohol and recreational drugs is NOT allowed at the fields, whether before, during or after a game. If you wish to engage in such activities, please do so in the privacy of your own home.
  • Use Spirit when dealing with other users of the parks. This means being polite to the people who inadvertently stray onto the field during your game. Also, bring the permit with you to your game to head off conflict with other users of the field.
  • Use common sense and be considerate of the neighbours. This means that you do not pee in the bushes, against the side of a house or in the middle of the field. Also, do not block driveways with your car.
  • If problems arise with fields, such as poor condition or conflict with other groups (e.g. soccer), please bring them to the attention of the league convenor and the fields coordinator. Do not take it upon yourself to solve the problem.

League Contacts

The head convenors for the 2014 Fall Outdoor League will be announced on the TUC contacts page in September.

General questions about Sunday Fall league should be addressed to fall@tuc.org, general questions about Monday Leagues should be addressed to fallmonday@tuc.org, general questions about Tuesday Co-ed League should be addressed to falltuesday@tuc.org, and general questions about Thursday Co-ed League should be addressed to fallthursday@tuc.org. However, in order to reduce the flood of emails to the convenor, if you are a player and have a question about the TUC or the league, please ask your team captain first or contact the appropriate person as listed on the TUC Contacts page. Your team captain is your first point of contact with the TUC when it comes to administrative matters.

Hopefully this provides all the necessary information to get your Ultimate season rolling. See you on the field!
