Wow! Wow! and Wow!

Japan teams finally lost some games. In the Open division the undefeated Japanese men were stunned in the quarters, bright and early Thursday morning by fourth seed Sweden 17-14.
The Swedes finished 2nd in their pool D after getting handled easily by the lower seeded Australia 17-9. The Australians then, after a layout dropped hammer in the end-zone on universe lost to the Americans 16-17 in a critical power pool play game. Next they lost another barn burner in their quarter, this time to Great Britain 14-16. Down early Australia called a time out and then proceeded to end the half with 3 straight points and a 9-8 lead. G.B. starting the 2nd half on defence took the next 3 points themselves and then squeaked out the win. Bummer Australia!
Canada 17-4 over Germany and the USA 17-7 over Finland both won their quarter final games and now face each other in the semi final showdown to see who will play the winner of Sweden and Great Britain for the Gold. Japan must be heartbroken after going undefeated in pool play.

NEXT LIVE STREAMS
07/12 05:00PM PDT (8:00pm EDT) Great Britain vs Sweden Open Semifinal 1
07/12 07:00PM PDT (10:00pm EDT) USA vs Canada Open Semifinal 2

(schedule is unclear, so the game times may be switched.)

The Women Masters division also saw a shake up as the USA beat Japan in their final game, leaving them both and Canada tied with 5-1 records at the end of pool play. Japan beat Canada 15-10, Canada beat USA 17-8 and the Americans took down Japan 17-9.
The small six team division now has two play-in-games to determine the two teams that will advance to the semis and play the first ranked after pool play, Canadians or the second ranked Americans. Japan has to win one of the play-in-games to get a rematch with USA in one semi. Canada will meet the winner of Australia and Great Britain in the other semi, both teams they easily beat in earlier games.

The BIG Canada vs. Japan game in the Women's divisioin is happening Thursday at 17:00 in Japan, so 04:00 in the morning here. Find the result here: http://wugc2012.org/english/index.php/c ... up/open/37
The top four finishing teams go to semis. Right now it looks like Colombia will be the 4th team and play the #1 ranked team after pool play tomorrow.
Both Japan and Canada are undefeated, so the winner will be ranked #1 and get the easier route to the semis by playing Colombia instead of 3rd ranked USA.

The Mixed division quarters also go Thursday early afternoon in Japan, so the middle of the night here. Undefeated Canada gets France in their quarter and a win gets a semi against the Team USA, otherwise known as the Polar Bears from the Bay area, two time USAU Champions.
Results here: http://wugc2012.org/english/index.php/c ... up/open/42
Just checked: @01:54 Canada up 5-0 on France.

Japan was undefeated in Open Masters, so gets ranked first. USA, Australia and Canada all finished at 5-2, the Americans getting the 2nd rank and Canada the 3rd. Only an eight team division, so there is no quarters and Canada and USA face off in one semi, Japan and Australia in the other.
Results here: http://wugc2012.org/english/index.php/c ... up/open/45

Here is a link to the VOD Canada vs. Finland game from Day 1, posted by UltiTV from Australia. They are posting videos of games already played. (some sweet sick layout D by Canada early in the vid).
http://ulti.tv/content/2012-wugc-day-1- ... -v-finland

More links to more stuff in the posts found below.

Here's where we're at to date...
Day 5 complete with 3 days to go, so all the BIG games are about to happen. Semis on Thursday and Finals on Friday. Since each division has a different number of teams entered, their playoff formats are also different.
All three divisions look like Japan, Canada, United States and "another team" will qualify for Semis, so in all 5 divisions the trick is to get that "fourth" team in your Semi Final.
Please find below a little run down on how Canada has done in each division so far and what the future holds.
What colours will our "five" medals be? Too close to call. Hold on to your Hat boys and girls, the fun is about to begin!

Open
Canada boys cruise through their Pool A, 4-0, outscoring their opponents by 51 goals. They then advanced to a Power Pool that included Japan. They had a barn burner with them on Day 5 and ended up losing on Universe 13-14 after they fought back hard to tie the game late at 13.
http://wugc2012.org/english/index.php/c ... up/open/30
Means they'll likely finish 2nd and play through the lower half of the quarters bracket where they will be joined by #1 from the other power pool, U.S.A.

Women
Looking awesome at 8-0! In case you haven't heard they beat the Americans in pool play 16-12. Down early 2-5, they fought back to be down only 8-9 at half and then continued to roll. The States don't seem to be too worried though. You can still watch the game on NGN with the VOD service.
Japan also beat the States, but only by 2, 14-12. Means both Japan and Canada will be undefeated when they meet in the final game of the lady's 11 team round robin pool tomorrow. The winner of their game will be seeded #1 for the top four team's championship playoffs and play the number four team in Semis. Probably Colombia who lost to Canada, Japan and USA by the same 9-17 scores, but possibly Australia or maybe even Great Britain. The loser gets the legendary Fury, (Americans) in the other semi.

Mixed
Again looking dominant in their Pool A, going 6-0, outscoring opponents by 72 points, Great Britain scoring 9 goals, the most Canada gave up in one game. They move on to the Quarters now and play France the fourth place team form Pool B. USA finished 2nd in Pool B to Japan and are in the top half of the quarters bracket with Canada, so a semi is in their future!

Women Masters
The Stick Dog rocks too! At 3-1 in their tiny 6 team division, only losing to Japan, 10-15 and defeating USA. They look set to finish 2nd and play the Americans in the semis. Their pool play game was a 17-8 victory for the Canucks

Masters
Pool play is done and Japan is undefeated with Canada, USA and Australia all at 5-2, so based on goal difference, USA gets the #2, Canada the #3 and they meet in the semis.
USA lost to Japan 14-17 and Australia 13-16. Canada lost to Japan 12-14 and USA 5-17 (strategic loss maybe, hopefully?) and Australia lost to Japan 13-16 and Canada 10-17.

Summery
Japan is looking awesome and are undefeated in all five divisions. The next step is to turn all their great play into 5 Gold Medals on their home turf. Canada and USA meet in at least four of the five semi finals, with only the Women's final rankings yet to be determined. A Canada win over Japan tomorrow will be all of Japan's teams' only loss and an easier road to the Finals for Canada. A loss to Japan means we get USA in all five divisions of our Semi Final games. ACK!

Hey folks,

I was just checking out the Worlds results so far, and noticed that Canada hasn't lost a game in any division so far at this tournament. Those results include the women's team beating the United States in pool play 16-12. That's pretty sweet....

cheers,
Ron

Below are theToronto players that play or have played in TUC, that maybe taught at clinics you've attended or that you had a beer with after a game.
