TOP VOLUNTEERS - TUC would not be able to run without the commitment of many amazing volunteers. 2011 saw some terrific contributions from volunteers and on October 21st at the inaugural Captain's Dinner several of the year's top volunteers were recognized. Our 2011 Volunteer Of The Year was Craig Stephen. Other recognized volunteers included Matt Denton, Alan Cheung, Ivan Peng and Kaity Williams. All of the volunteers were awarded amazing Steam Whistle prize packages.

Craig Stephen

Craig is well known as TUC’s photographer extraordinaire, snapping action shots at all TUC events, tournaments and leagues for the last 15 years. He was highly involved with photography in 2011 and did not hesitate to share these shots with the TUC membership. Craig has made an effort to actively volunteer at many TUC tournaments in 2011, as well as helping to organize and run clinics for members at the beginner and intermediate levels. He has also been involved with a number of school and community workshops, teaching students and youth the great game of Ultimate.

Craig recently coached the Toronto Junior Summer League – Northeast, helping to develop skills of young ultimate players, as well as organizing game play. He is currently providing similar leadership at the Toronto Junior Fall League. Despite his packed schedule Craig finds the time to act as a key coordinator of TUC pick-up, organizing games on Friday’s in the summer, Monday’s in the fall as well as winter pick-up on Wednesday’s at UCC. Craig is also an active communicator on the BBS where he promotes numerous broadcasts of high level ultimate for the viewing pleasure of others. He is also a team captain, and provides regular feedback to the Club.

Matt Denton

Matt has served as a TUC league convener for every 2011 season, and he consistently contributes to the overall improvement of TUC leagues and game-play in this role. Matt has excelled at providing timely communications to captains, building and maintaining league schedules, resolving issues with fields, monitoring spirit and more. Matt made vital contributions to the development of the 30th anniversary event legacy and he has been on the Hall of Fame committee for the last year and a half helping to shape HOF policy. In addition to assisting with the annual Captain’s Meeting in May, he also attended last month’s Strategic Planning Session and is helping to shape the future direction of TUC.

Alan Cheung

Alan was pivotal in operating Toronto Juniors Summer League – Northeast. On Wednesday’s during the summer months Alan was responsible for instructing up to 90 kids on the sport of Ultimate, helping teach and develop skills and organizing game-play. Alan continues his great work with junior players, running the Toronto Junior Fall League on Sunday’s where he coordinates skill sessions and games and ensures organization and safety. Alan was also active at the 2011 Spirit Hat Tournament where he ran a juniors clinic.

Ivan Peng

Ivan was instrumental in the coordination of the Toronto Juniors Summer League – Northeast. On Wednesday’s during the summer months Ivan was responsible for instructing up to 90 kids on the sport of Ultimate, helping teach and develop skills and organizing game-play. Ivan continues to lend his time to working with junior players by running the Toronto Junior Fall League on Sunday’s where he coordinates skill sessions and games and ensures organization and safety. Ivan has been a huge help with the overall development of the game amongst junior players.

Kaity Williams

Kaity played a huge role in the development of the Toronto Junior Summer League – Southwest. In this role she helped develop player skills, taught the rules and coordinated game play for over 25 juniors. Kaity was also involved with TUC clinic leagues On Monday’s in the summer at Sir Winston Churchill where she spent time teaching beginner level TUC players and running games.
