Hello TUC Member

Pie Plate is Here!

At long last the Pie Plate has arrived. For those hidden under a rock, the Pie Plate is TUC’s annual souvenir magazine that comes free with your TUC membership. This new Pie Plate looks back on 2006 and all of the amazing facets of the Toronto Ultimate Club. It is a very visual piece that features lots of great year-round photos, courtesy of www.craigstephenphotography.com. The PL8 also highlights league results, 2005 Club finances, and pressing issues like field status.

View the 2006 Pie Plate.

To save on mailing costs we will not be mailing the PL8’s this year, but we have provided the magazine online in our Archives section and we will also have a limited supply of hard-copies available at TUC events over the next few months. If you want to make sure you get a copy of Pie Plate contact us at the TUC office or stop by to get a copy.

We hope you enjoy it. Thanks again to all of our Pie Plate contributors!

Student Position with TUC

TUC is searching for a sport management student interested in organizing and executing TUC events in 2007. Due to the increasing demands on our staff and the need for enhanced professionalism, the Board of Directors’ Human Resources Committee has approved the services of a part-time ‘Events Manager’ for the summer. This position is a budget-friendly option for the Club that provides a great opportunity for a sport-minded student to gain invaluable experience.

Catch the Spirit – Seeking Volunteers and School Teams!

The Toronto Ultimate Club is hosting its 3rd annual “Catch the Spirit” tournament for high school teams on Thursday & Friday March 1st & 2nd, 2007. Last year we DOUBLED the number of teams participating and we’re looking to raise the bar even higher this time around!

The tournament has two divisions – the ‘B’ division (beginner teams/players) will play only on Thursday March 1st and is limited to 14 teams. The ‘A’ division (experienced teams/players) will play only on Friday March 2nd and is limited to 16 teams. Deadline for schools to register is February 26.

TUC is putting out a call to anyone who would like to volunteer for this great event. As well, if you know of any schools who may be interested, please let them how to “Catch the Spirit!” by sending along this document.

CUPA Coaching Program Committee

The Canadian Ultimate Players Association and Ontario Disc Sports Association are currently working to create certified bilingual Ultimate coaching materials. Once completed, the hope is to have the documents formalized and approved by the Coaching Association of Canada as a Level 3 National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) for Ultimate. There are already some volunteers on board, but CUPA and ODSA are in search of more bright coaching minds to contribute. If you are interested please email ed@canadianultimate.com & president@ondisc.org with the following information:

  • your name and email
  • your time availability (e.g. 2 hrs/week, 20hrs/month)
  • your experience with coaching and/or designing coaching programs

Sincerely,

The TUC team
