30 Years of TUC – Indoor Gala Recap
The Toronto Ultimate Club 30th Anniversary Gala took place on October 22 and it was one that will go down in history. We’d like to thank all of the mighty volunteers, the 30th Anniversary Committee, and the Hall of Fame Committee for their exceptional work. We’d also like to thank Steam Whistle Brewery & VC Ultimate (Presenting Sponsors), Pivot Sport Medicine, and Jamie Dempster for their sponsorship of the event. Congratulations go out to our inaugural Hall of Fame inductees (see below).
The premier TUC film, “30 Years in 30 Minutes” which was directed by Otto Chung, can now be viewed online!
As well, the Scally’s Cup and the Big Hammers vs Monster (from Rogers TV) footage is now also available online!
More links, photos and news can be found on the TUC home page once we get caught up!
Thanks to everyone who celebrated 30 years of TUC with us. Every contribution, big or small, was significantly helpful. We look forward to the next 30 years of Ultimate in Toronto!
TUC Hall of Fame – Class of 2010
Congratulations to Class of 2010, the inaugural TUC Hall of Fame inductees:
Each of our inductees received a commemorative signed and framed picture of the HOF 2010 Class. They also received a Hall of Fame Hoodie, hat, and Steam Whistle swag.
We have created a new page TUC Hall of Fame page on our website and we encourage you to check the bios and images of our Hall of Famers. This page will be further updated in the near future.
There were many worthy candidates that were considered for the 2010 Class. No doubt this inaugural induction will open the 'great debate' of who should be next, and those that may seem as obvious choices will probably be inducted in the near future. That's where we need help! TUC is looking to form an Alumni Committee moving forward that collects nominations and votes on future Hall of fame inductions. As well the committee will address key philosophical questions regarding frequency, chronology, and protocol. Interested in participating and think you have an extensive knowledge of our history? Contact halloffame@tuc.org
TUC Volunteer Awards & Appreciation Event
TUC is hosting its annual Volunteer Appreciation event on Saturday, November 20, from 6-10pm. The function will include a mini-tournament from 6-9pm at Lamport Stadium and then some post-game eats at Shoeless Joe’s. Attendance to this event is by invite-only and for TUC members who have volunteered in 2010. Invites will be sent out in the near future.
At the 30th Anniversary Gala, TUC honoured its 2010 Volunteer Award Winners:
Volunteer of the Year 2010 – Natalie Fitzgerald
Natalie has worn many hats for the Club in 2010. She has convened multiple leagues throughout the year; handling scheduling, team requests, dealing with venue issues, etc. She currently serves on the TUC Board of Directors where she is an active participant, and is also the current Touring Chair for the TUC. This involves a great deal of work with our local touring teams, supporting their efforts and in turn organizing their volunteer efforts. Natalie is a leader on team Lotus, and helped run the women’s spring tournament and several clinics for women. She is also a big advocate for Juniors and has helped develop our Juniors policy and push for more Juniors involvement moving forward. For the hundreds of hours that Natalie has committed to TUC in 2010, thank you so much!
Natalie receives a Steam Whistle VIP Tour for 10, Steam Whistle prize pack & Hoodie, LCBO Gift Certificate, $50 Scally’s dollars, VC long sleeve, and VC hat.
Volunteer Award Winners
Matt Denton: convenor extraordinaire, regular Club contributor, 30th Anniversary committee Rahil Suleman: convened EVERY season in 2010, TUC Board Director, Ultimate Canada Board member Amber Pollett: TUC Clinic League super volunteer, playoffs, 30th outdoor event volunteer Thomas Meyer & Bradley Wentworth: amazing Toronto Juniors Summer League Convenors!
All of the above volunteers put in an unbelievable amount of commitment and dedication to the Club. Each receives a Steam Whistle prize pack, LCBO or VC gift certificate, VC long sleeve and hat.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of this Club. We can’t do it without you! Thanks to everyone who volunteered in 2010. If you are interested in volunteering with the TUC in the future please email volunteers@tuc.org.
