2011 Volunteers of the Month

December

December's Volunteer of the Month is Andrew Guzzwell. Andrew continues to step up his volunteer contributions while at the same time playing regularly in almost every TUC league. He Captain's teams such as Get at Me Wolf!, Dumplings & Dories as well as 'I got 99 Problems but a Disc Ain't One' during the Indoor season. Andrew's dedication to the growth of the Sunday Co-Ed UCC league where he acts as Coordinator has been a tremendous help. His organization, communication and league management are models for other conveners.

November

Thomas Meyer, a former TUC President, has been involved with the club since 1997 and is currently the captain of the successful franchise 'Jonathan'. There has been no one more dedicated than Thomas when it comes to the development of junior programming. His work coordinating the Toronto Junior Summer Leagues (TJSL), Toronto Junior Fall League (TJFL) and the successful Junior's Open House session this Summer have been tremendous. In November Thomas organized the first ever TJFL playoff championships, where over 40 juniors participated. On top of all the work Tom has done for TUC's Junior programs, he also dedicates time to the Ontario Disc Sports Association (ODSA).

October

Gregory Lang is the October 2011 Volunteer of the Month for TUC. Chances are, if you've played Ultimate for at least a few years then you have run into Greg on the field. A longtime member of TUC, he has participated in both league and every Canadian National Championship for over 25 years straight! This year, Greg has been very active on the TUC Board of Directors and Lands Committee. He serves on multiple Board sub-committees and has assisted the Club with its strategic planning. In October, Greg has been working diligently behind the scenes to ensure that TUC places the membership as its number one priority.

A big thanks to Gregory for all his help this month and throughout the year!

September

Joseph Krengel is the 2011 September Volunteer of the Month. A regular league participant and current member of team Finger Flick'n Good from the Sunday Fall Outdoor league, his volunteer contributions to TUC have grown in recent months. While currently holding the position of Spirit Chair, Joseph was also recently elected to the Board for 2011 and beyond. In addition, he played a large role at the All-Star Challenge event helping with registration and set-up. Joseph once again dedicated his time in order to attend the Strategic Planning Session and 2011 TUC AGM. Thank you for all your help Joseph and keep up the great work!

Kaity Williams is the 2011 August Volunteer of the Month. Kaity, a member of Lily and Canada's 2010 Under 23 women's team, has been instrumental in helping with the development of newer and younger players to the game. This summer Kaity was one of the coaches in our TJSL Southwest division, an instructor at one of our youth summer camp workshops at Downsview Park and helped out with the Monday clinic leagues.

Kevin Ow is the 2011 June Volunteer of the Month. Kevin was the most dedicated volunteer present at our Midseason tournament. His presence at the TUC tents from set up to take down helped the tournament run very smoothly on both Saturday and Sunday. Kevin did everything from bringing water to the fields (a huge job on a scorching hot weekend) to collect scores, he even went to buy more ice for injuries when we almost ran out! Kevin has been a long time volunteer with TUC, present at many tournaments throughout the years. Thank you for all your help Kevin, keep up the great work!

This June, Alan Cheung is our Volunteer of the Month. Alan's commitment and dedication to coaching the juniors programs within TUC is exemplary. Each week, Alan is part of the team that runs TJSL north - our largest junior's league with over 90 participants registered! Alan is always around to help juniors, teaching and answering questions whenever the need arises. Alan was also one of our coaches for the Junior's Open House on June 25th, where he helped teach the basics of ultimate to 8-14 year olds. He shares his passion for ultimate with all of those around him, and is helping shape the future generation of ultimate players! Thanks Alan!

May

Heather Adams is our May Volunteer of the Month. Heather has been integral in helping run this winter's Junior's Girls Clinics. She attended most sessions and was key in the development of the program. Heather also coached many clinics last year and captained one of our women's hat teams this winter. At the beginning of May, Heather was one of the tournament directors for the inaugural Canadian High School Ultimate Championships in Mississauga.

April

Our April volunteer of the month is Trevor Zimmer. Trevor has been an integral part of the clinics we've run this month. April was when we hosted beginner, recreational, and intermediate clinics; Trevor helped coach all three of them. He was able to shared his ultimate experience allowing everyone present to develop their skills . His commitment to the development of the sport of ultimate was shown through his dedication to these clinics.

March

Kate Jardine is our volunteer of the month for March. Kate plays on Lotus, one of Toronto's women’s touring teams. She coached the Junior Girls Clinic in the winter, coaches one of the Women's League teams, and was one of the clinic coaches at the Women’s Intermediate Tournament in March. Thanks to Kate for sharing her experience and game skills with the young generation as well as the TUC ladies.

February

Our volunteer of the month for February is Isaiah Masek-Kelly. Isaiah was a key volunteer for our "Catch the Spirit" High School Tournament in late February. Whether it was helping to setup fields, score games or report scores, Isaiah was there throughout the two days of the event. As a result, the tournament went off without a hitch. Thanks to Isaiah for all his great help!

January

A long standing TUC member and devotee to player development, Kevin Vigar is the TUC Volunteer of the Month for January 2011. Kevin, a long time TUC player, Men's winter league convener and a new board member, currently serves on the HR Committee which played a major role in both retaining the current TUC staff as well as building the structure for a new staff position for the upcoming new year.
